According to GM Jed Hoyer, Arismendy Alcantara will receive plenty of playing time down the stretch for the Cubs.  Hoyer had this to say to Cubs.com:

“It’s time for ‘Mendy’ to play,” Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer said Tuesday. “He’ll play second, he’ll play center. I think he’ll be in the lineup every day. One of the things we feel strongly about is that when we do bring guys up, they’re here to play. We’re not going to bring up these guys who are part of our future to share time on the bench.”

Alcantara is currently hitting .282/.326/.590 with two home runs and three stolen bases in 43 plate appearances this season.  His prolonged promotion is well deserved after his breakout Double-A campaign last year has been followed up by an even more impressive season this year at Iowa.  Alcantara will finish the season with a Triple-A line of .307/.353/.537 while hitting 10 home runs and stealing 21 bases.

As a switch hitter with speed who has shown an aptitude for talking walks, Alcantara is ideal at the top of the Cubs lineup.  His nickname of ‘Mendy’ is also ideal for bringing back memories of a classic Seinfeld episode:
